Guidelines for Mobile Banking Units Are Introduced by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka
Circular No. 03 of 2024, published by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), provides detailed instructions for Licensed Commercial Banks (LCBs) on how to set up and run Mobile Banking Units (MBUs). The goal of the action is to improve nationwide accessibility to financial services and standardize mobile banking procedures.
MBUs are described under these new criteria as units that offer banking services via vehicles, by visiting the locations of customers, or by functioning at fixed sites on designated days. They also include transient venues for open-air gatherings like carnivals and exhibitions.
