The Magic of Rotary – A Journey of Hope, Action, and Transformation

Rotary District 3220 (Sri Lanka & Maldives) successfully concluded a transformative Rotary Year, bringing to life the Magic of Rotary with a series of impactful initiatives that addressed critical social, environmental, and economic issues across the island. The district carried out six significant projects in line with Rotary’s seven areas of focus, emphasizing service, collaboration, and inclusive growth, making a lasting impression on communities around the country.
In a year marked by both growth and innovation, Rotary District 3220 increased its membership by 13% and introduced five new clubs, showcasing the growing reach and significance of Rotary’s mission across Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
A year of firsts also added to the district’s many achievements, a group Rotarians were taken to India for a pioneering business matchmaking trip, enhancing international ties and opening new paths for professional collaboration.
Rotary for Little Hearts, a project aimed at saving the lives of children with congenital heart disease, was one of the year’s most notable accomplishments. Numerous children were able to receive life-saving treatments thanks to the initiative’s tremendous support from Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Clubs, which helped it reach 70% of its fundraising goal (Rs. 200 Million).

In an effort to better prepare communities to recognize and assist individuals at risk, Rotary for Healing Minds conducted Gatekeeper Training programs across educational institutions in response to the growing mental health concerns.
Through a nationwide initiative, Rotary for Career Guidance addressed thousands of schoolchildren around the island, assisting young individuals in discovering career choices that fit their skills and interests.
Professionals and entrepreneurs from all around the Rotary network came together for Rotary Means Business, which facilitated valuable business relationships, provided mentorship opportunities, and increased the organization’s membership.
Environmental conservation continued to be a top priority, with Rotary for the Environment leading nationwide cleaning initiatives and awareness campaigns aimed at lowering plastic use. 30,000 trees were planted in partnership with Hayleys, making a substantial contribution to the nation’s reforestation initiatives.
In the meantime, Rotary for Ability broke new ground by promoting inclusion and equal opportunity in the workforce by planning job opportunity drives for people with disabilities.

District Governor Sushena Ranatunga reflected on the year’s achievements, saying, “This year has shown us that Rotary’s strength lies in its unity. We have brought about significant change across the nation in collaboration with our members, Rotaractors, Interactors, and partners. The power of teamwork and purpose-driven action is demonstrated by the “Hope on Wheels” project, distributing bicycles to students through a cooperation with Rotary in India and the completion of more than LKR 1 billion worth of projects in a single year. That is the Magic of Rotary – turning shared purpose into meaningful, lasting impact.”
By emphasizing that Rotary is more than simply a social club and that it is a global network spanning more than 200 nations that provides possibilities for leadership, service, business development, and professional growth, Rotary District 3220 also sought to alter public perceptions of the organization. Connecting service-minded professionals and opening doors for economic development and mentoring was made possible by the Rotary Means Business project.
Rotary encourages individuals, professionals, youth, and business partners to work together to keep the momentum going as the year comes to a close. With a strong track record and a constantly growing global network, Rotary is dedicated to promoting service and togetherness in order to bring about constructive change, proving once again that when we come together, the Magic of Rotary can transform lives and communities.
