Focus on enhancing industrial and investment cooperation
A special meeting was held on January 28 between the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industry and Manufacturing of Pakistan, Haroon Akhtar Khan, who is in the country on an official visit, and the Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunnetti, at the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development.
The discussion was held at length on enhancing industrial and investment cooperation between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, and the Pakistani delegation led by Haroon Akhtar Khan focused on investment opportunities in the fields of chemical products, mineral products, gems and electric three-wheeler manufacturing.
Minister Handunnetti pointed out the importance of implementing a common mechanism to overcome the challenges in the industrial sector common to both Sri Lanka and Pakistan, and said that there are more opportunities for foreign investors in Sri Lanka and that a suitable environment is currently being implemented in Sri Lanka by removing the barriers to investors.
Minister Handunnetti invited the Pakistani investment community to the Sri Lanka Expo 2026 international exhibition to be held in June 2026. The invitation was accepted by Khan, who said that a group of high-level investors from Pakistan would participate in the event.
