David Pieris Motor Company wins a Merit at JASTECA Awards 2025

David Pieris Motor Company (Private) Limited (DPMC), Sri Lanka’s largest automotive company, has been recognised with the Merit Award of the ‘Ian Dias Abeysinghe Memorial JASTECA CSR / Sustainability Award’ at this year’s awards ceremony.

The Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA) is a renowned organisation that promotes Japanese management philosophies, technical collaboration and sustainable business excellence in Sri Lanka. The JASTECA CSR / Sustainability Awards honour organisations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility, guided by the Japanese Kaizen philosophy of continuous improvement for economic, social and environmental progress.

This recognition reflects DPMC’s commitment to embedding sustainability into every aspect of its operations—spanning environmental stewardship, renewable energy generation, community engagement and innovation.

DPMC’s award-winning submission showcased a series of impactful initiatives that highlight its holistic approach to responsible business. A key focus was the company’s renewable energy generation efforts, with most large-roof facilities equipped with solar panels to produce clean energy, thereby reducing dependency on non-renewable sources. Another significant initiative, the eDrive Project, promotes green mobility through in-house electric vehicle conversions fully carried out by DPMC’s own teams. The project also includes eDrive for Differently Abled, reflecting the company’s inclusive approach to innovation.

Beyond technological progress, DPMC continues to invest in employee welfare and community development, with wide-ranging programmes designed to uplift livelihoods and enhance social well-being. Environmental responsibility remains a cornerstone of its operations, with initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, effluent treatment and reuse and energy-efficient practices helping to minimise environmental impact.

Further strengthening its sustainability leadership, DPMC integrates risk management and sustainability planning with core business objectives, ensuring long-term value creation. The company also emphasises ethical and sustainable supply chain practices by partnering with like-minded suppliers who share its environmental and governance standards.

DPMC’s sustainability journey extends to global benchmarks, as it actively contributes to 15 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Its innovative community-focused initiatives—such as Tune-Up Dansala, E-Drive, and E-Drive for Differently Abled—stand as examples of how technology and compassion can work together to drive positive change.

Receiving the Merit Award at the JASTECA CSR / Sustainability Awards reaffirms DPMC’s position as a responsible corporate leader committed to building a greener, more inclusive and sustainable future for all Sri Lankans.
