Setting the benchmark for sustainable aluminium manufacturing in Sri Lanka and worldwide, Alumex PLC launched a comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) roadmap titled ‘Elevate’ on 3rd December 2024 at the Hayleys Head Office. Adopting a formal ESG framework underscores Alumex’s vision of creating long-term value for stakeholders and contributing to a sustainable future.

Commenting on the significant occasion, Managing Director of Alumex PLC, Pramuk Dediwela said, “ESG factors are crucial in the construction industry, across the value chain, within our manufacturing footprint and in the eyes of our discerning clients around the world. We are proud to launch our ESG framework as a roadmap for responsible, ethical, and sustainable business operations at Alumex PLC. We believe this will raise the bar and set new benchmarks for sustainable business practices in the aluminum manufacturing sector. In response to the growing need for a circular economy, Alumex is committed to reducing its carbon emissions which aligns with global sustainability standards and benefits Sri Lanka by contributing to a lower overall carbon rating. The roadmap sets clear targets for the future, including a 25% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity, aiming to contribute to global efforts against climate change while optimizing energy use in operations.

Moreover, Alumex has aligned with global frameworks like the International Aluminium Institute and the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative. The company is focused on decarbonising its aluminium value chain by transitioning to cleaner energy sources and optimising production processes, while also promoting resource efficiency through effective recycling practices. The roadmap underscores the company’s commitment to responsible sourcing, with a goal of achieving 50% social and environmental screening of suppliers to ensure sustainable and ethical practices throughout the supply chain.

Furthermore, Alumex also prioritizes biodiversity preservation and engages in habitat restoration, along with setting a 30% reduction target in water consumption intensity, reflecting a commitment to preserving water resources and minimizing environmental impact. Transparency and ethical practices are fundamental to Alumex’s operations, with a commitment to open communication and stakeholder accountability.
