Almas Holdings (Pvt.) Ltd, a long-term investment holding company with interests in the capital market and real estate sectors, has pledged Rs.225 million to support flood relief and post-disaster rebuilding efforts, underscoring the growing private sector participation in the national recovery initiatives.

The commitment is being made through its subsidiary, Almas Equities (Pvt.) Ltd, a Securities and Exchange Commission-regulated and Colombo Stock Exchange-licensed stockbroking firm.

As part of the pledge, Almas Holdings Chairman Imtiaz Buhardeen handed over a cheque for Rs.100 million to the Presidentโ€™s Secretary for the Rebuilding Sri Lanka Presidentโ€™s Fund.

The group has also earmarked a further Rs.125 million specifically for flood relief and reconstruction activities in the Kandy district, one of the areas severely affected by the recent flooding.

The company said the funding is intended to support the immediate relief as well as longer-term rebuilding efforts, in coordination with the national authorities.
